Donor embryo treatment
The reason for using donated embryos (DE) is fertility disorder both in woman and man.
Embryo donation in the Czech Republic is allowed by law, but is strictly anonymous. However, we can inform the couple (embryo recipients) on non-identifying characteristics of the donors of sperm and eggs, from which the embryo originated. These are: the age of donors, their blood types, height, weight, eye and hair colours, or education, etc.
We most often use frozen embryos from our cryobank. The embryos are freezed using vitrification in doses of one to three embryos.
Frozenembryotransfer (FET) with donor embryos is very easy. The endometrium is being prepared by oestrogens and progestogens; it consists only in taking tablets and vaginal capsules. Both medications are used until a positive pregnancy test and when pregnancy occurs, both medications need to be used until the 12th week of pregnancy as there is no corpus luteum.
The success rate of frozenembryotransfer with donor eggs is higher than in FET with own gametes because only strictly selected and high quality embryos from healthy donors are freezed. The success rate can even increase by using “fresh” embryos when just retrieved donor oocytes are fertilized by donor sperm.
Embryo donors must meet strict criteria that apply to sperm and oocyte donors.
Treatment using donor embryos is not covered by public health insurance.
